Welcome
to our community
3 new physicians to precept in the Southern region
The
University
of
Kentucky
recently appointed physicians Rebecca P. Chatham, Ginny Lee Gottschalk
and Jimmye Shannon Perkins M.D. to the Community-based Faculty as
assistant professors of family medicine.
Members of the community faculty allow students to observe and
work with them in real-life settings. Students gain valuable
experience in the practice of medicine by learning from physicians as
they treat their patients.
Dr. Chatham and Dr. Gottschalk
join Dr. Richard J. Hempel of Family Medicine Clinic of
Danville. Dr. Hempel is a long-time
UK
community faculty.
Dr. Perkins is on staff at Williamsburg Family Medicine in
Williamsburg
.
The coordination of a student’s clinical rotation with a
Community Based Faculty member is primarily the responsibility of
Southern Kentucky AHEC (
Area
Health
Education
Center
).
While the clinical educational experience provides valuable
medical training, it also allows students to be exposed to rural
medicine with the goal of bringing them back to the area when they
complete their education and begin to practice medicine.
